Newsletter November 12th 2024

Every Holiday Season Riverside Yarns takes on a project of giving.  This year we are raising funds to help bring a family of 6 to Owen Sound. This family is very dear to our hearts and includes 4 little children. They are precariously sheltering in Europe and cannot remain there. They are relatives of a close friend of Cathy’s mother and we have decided to help.

All monies collected by Riverside Yarns will go to the Bluewater Friendship Sponsor Group, an official “Group of 5” formed under the auspices of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada to support people seeking safety and a better life in Canada.  Cathy, her mother, and 3 friends are all members of the Group of 5.  Miguelle is an honorary member!

Our first “event” is the sale of some lovely candles.  Serendipity Candles are locally made soy based candles with naturally derived fragrance.  We have five different fragrances in the store.

If you are purchasing candles for the Holiday Season, please consider buying a “Friendship Candle” from Riverside Yarns!  All profits will go to the Bluewater Friendship Sponsor Group.

We’re changing up our Newsletter a little bit.  We hope you enjoy our new streamlined version.

Welcome to the Holiday Season!

Let’s Talk Yarn!
We're kicking off the Season with a SALE!

15% off all our Alafosslopi starting this Friday, November 15th through Saturday, November 16th!

Next, we want to feature Alafosslopi, a classic Chunky Icelandic Yarn that has been around for a very long time and never grows old.  This is the yarn you see in all those gorgeous Icelandic sweaters.  Sometimes our customers pass it over because it feels a little scratchy and, certainly, it is a more rustic wool yarn.  However, Alafosslopi softens with washing and Joan’s beautiful felted mitts are actually super soft! The colours of Lopi Yarns are spectacular and we have 15 in stock!  At 15% off the regular price of $17.50/ball, you can try your hand at felting!

Join us in the River District this Saturday, November 16th for Holiday Magic, a parade and a party! The Santa Claus Parade starts at 5pm. We'll be open until 8pm and we sure hope to see you.

Featured Projects
Both of these beautiful projects were knit by Sarah-Anne Gagnon for her daughter, Jeanne.  Can you guess what Jeanne's favourite colours are?  This is Malabrigo Rasta and a lovely Lang Sock Yarn for the garter stitch shawl.  Très joli!
Alice Bumstead has done a beautiful job with her Bas-Relief Sweater by Turquoise Toque Designs. Alice used Berroco Remix to make this beauty.
A Tip for You
Do you know about the Canadian Design Team Tin Can Knits?  Their patterns are all seamless, fun, and sized baby to big.  Some of their best patterns are even free.  You can download their app and have the pattern come up only in the size you wish to knit. As we have all occasionally picked the wrong little number in the brackets (yikes), we can tell you that this is a pretty sweet feature.  And they offer lots of helpful tutorials.  Visit their website here: https://tincanknits.com.  We really love Tin Can Knits.
Wishing you all a great start to the Holiday Season!

Thank you from all of us at RSY!
